How To Make Cornbread
At a friend of mine’s request, I’m adding a simple guide to making cornbread. It’s really not very hard, and it takes about 30 min.
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1⁄3 cup sugar
- 2 1⁄2 tsp baking powder
- 1⁄4 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk (or vinegar milk – but buttermilk is better)
- 6 TBSP butter, melted
1 egg, slightly beaten
Preheat oven to 400˚F (204°C). Grease and flour a 9 inch square baking pan.
Stir dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then stir in the butter. Next the buttermilk and egg and mix gently.
Pour batter into the prepared pan, set on the middle rack of the oven, and bake for 25 minutes.
Cornbread is done when edges are lightly browned and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cut into 9 or 16 squares. You can also add bacon, though I usually don’t.
