How To Make Cornbread

At a friend of mine’s request, I’m adding a simple guide to making cornbread. It’s really not very hard, and it takes about 30 min.

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 13 cup sugar
  • 2 12 tsp baking powder
  • 14 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or vinegar milk – but buttermilk is better)
  • 6 TBSP butter, melted
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten

  • Preheat oven to 400ËšF (204°C). Grease and flour a 9 inch square baking pan.

  • Stir dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then stir in the butter. Next the buttermilk and egg and mix gently.

  • Pour batter into the prepared pan, set on the middle rack of the oven, and bake for 25 minutes.

Cornbread is done when edges are lightly browned and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cut into 9 or 16 squares. You can also add bacon, though I usually don’t.
