So I’m experimenting with a new blog and thought I’d share. Feel free to pass it along to anyone you wish!
Development
Qais is changing everyday. His interest these days is on sitting and standing while holding our hands. He can sit without holding our hands but we can’t be far away in case he loses his balance. Rolling though…. he’s totally not interested. He’s done it a couple times in each direction but only when he needs a toy or to get to the boob
I’ve done some reading online and it doesn’t seem uncommon, some babies never get very into rolling apparently. I think this is really strange honestly, but Qais is his own little person with his own little agenda.
mommy brain
This morning I couldn’t figure out which was wrong: seventy million or eleventy million. It still seems like they are both made up, or both right. Either way, I had to ask Breandan. Apparently I didn’t get enough sleep last night.
Blog
So obviously this blog is turning into a baby/family blog instead of a personal “what’s going on with me” blog so I’m thinking about moving its location, look and format….
I’d also like to start putting stuff up here about some of the crafts I’m doing, more about parenting stuff that I’m learning and reading about
Breastfeeding a four month old
That bra is SO smart because my boy is VERY distractable. Apparently this is pretty normal for a 4 month old and it’s VERY annoying. What’s worse is when he wants to look around at the world WITH my nipple in his mouth. He’s trying to stretch me all around and then gets mad if the nipple comes out!
Teething
I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that Q is teething. People have been telling me for a while that he’s teething but I just didn’t accept it until this past week when 2 new things developed.
1 - his demeanor. Even after a great nap he’s irritable. Unless I’m all up in his face making him laugh, smile, doing all the right things ALL the time he’s annoyed, fussy, impatient, etc… To me it just seems like the classic behavior of someone who is physically uncomfortable.
2 - this was the big clincher. Breandan and I both noticed independently of each other that his bottom gum is looking different. It’s red, wider than usual and has two white bits in the middle like there is pressure from behind, of which I’m certain there is.
So I’ve been giving him Hyland’s teething tablets, which I’m ready to buy stock in. and Camilia too, but so far I like the hyland’s better.
Btw, have you ever heard of “drool stool”?
I came across it on askmoxie.com and after googling around it’s TOTALLY what qais has had!

Mommy Brain
This mommy brain moment is brought to you by Wilton
While it’s great that I scored some candy melts on sale for $.25, it wasn’t so great that I left the bag in my car for…. 5 days in the june heat
It wasn’t pretty. Well actually it was, they were purple.
HT Super Doubles
woohoo! I saved $45 today, the last day of Harris Teeter’s super doubles. My favorite deals were:
Ben & Jerry’s regularly $3.89 was on sale 2/$5 and I bought one for $2.50 and then had a $1 of coupon that was doubled so I got it for $.50!
Philly Cream Cheese that ended up being $.65 each
Planters peanut jars for $1.25 each (the big ones)
OK, I’ll stop there because I could keep going….
I’m trying hard to be a smart(er) shopper and get good deals and today was a success! I’m learning a lot about prices that I have to admit that I didn’t pay a lot of attention to before.
Swaddling
We’ve had to start swaddling Qais again after a couple months of no more swaddles. With his new arm control he just won’t stop waving his arms and smacking himself. I have to hold his top arm down as I nurse him down at night or else he’ll be half asleep and smack himself in the face (not to mention me).
I actually went through his box of newborn stuff that I was taking up to the attic to get some swaddling blankets out to try - the kiddopatumus one that velcros closed and the miracle blanket which I never got the hang of. Tonight he’s in the miracle blanket and we’ll see how that goes.
Babywearing update
We’ve been working on mastering back carries and today we tried the back carry in our Kozy (mei tai) and had great success! I tried the back carry in the kozy a month or so ago and didn’t have great luck. Before we had tried the newborn high back carry with his legs froggied but today we unfroggied them (which we’ve been doing in the front carries lately) and it went great! In fact, the Qaister is asleep on my back as I type this and dinner is bubbling away on the stove. Finally! I can cook while babywearing! woohoo
